The reaction of N-methylpyrroles with tetracyanoethylene (TCNE) has been studied in various solvents (DMSO, acetone, THF). A highly efficient protocol for the copper(I)-promoted regioselective a-tricyanoethenylation of N-methylpyrroles has been developed.
