Thromboembolic venous disease

2003
The extended thrombosis that develops in the major veins is of extremely high clinical importance. In 1846 Virchow recognized the association between venous thrombosis in the legs and pulmonary embolism. This disease is also called thrombophlebitis, deep venous thrombosis (DVT), phlebitis, thrombosis but the thromboembolic venous disease is the appropriate name. This name suggests the anatomopathological lesions, the development of the disease in veins and includes the major complication that aggravates the disease.
