Studies on the chemical constituents of the marine alga Rhodomela confervoides

2003
Objective Study on the chemical constituent of the marine red alga, Rhodomela confervoides, collected from the coast of Qingdao. Methods All kinds of column chromatog-raphy and IR, MS, NMR spectroscopic techniques were used. Results Five bromophenols have been isolated from the alga Rhodomela confervoides , and their structures were determined as 2,2', 3,3'-tetrabrorno- 4, 4', 5 , 5-tetrahydroxydiphenylmethane ( Ⅰ ), 2 , 2', 3-tribro-mo-3',4, 4', 5-tetrahydroxy-6'- hydroxymethyldiphenylmethane (Ⅱ), 2 , 3-dibromo-4, 5-di-hydroxybenzyl alcohol (Ⅲ), 2 ,3-dibromo-4,5-dihydroxybenzaldehyde (Ⅳ), 2 ,3-dibromo-4, 5-didroxybenzyl ethyl ether (Ⅴ). Among them, the compound Ⅱ showed selective antitu-mor activities against KB and Bel 7402 cells.
