Procedure for obtaining a mixture of alcohols having 13 carbon atoms, wherein a) is contacted hydrocarbon stream with 4 carbon atoms, containing butene containing less than 5% by weight, based on the butene fraction, of isobutene, at elevated temperature with a heterogeneous catalyst containing nickel, b) is isolated from the reaction mixture the fraction of olefins having 12 carbon atoms, c) is subjected to hydroformylation fraction olefin with 12 carbon atoms by reaction with carbon monoxide and hydrogen in the presence of a cobalt catalyst and d) is hydrogenated.
