Status of the MOS-1 Experiment

1988
By arrangement between CSIRO, the Science and Technology Agency of Japan, and the National Space Development Agency of Japan, data from the Marine Observations Satellite MOS-1 are broadcast for specific orbits over Australia during an experimental period of 6 months duration. CSIRO, with the co-operation of the Australian Centre for Remote Sensing (ACRES) has temporarily modified the ACRES Data Acquisition Facility in Alice Springs to permit the reception of these experimental data and their processing to computer compatible tapes. The necessary ground station modifications were, wherever possible, contracted to Australian industry. The experience gained through this experiment is expected to improve the competitiveness of the Australian private sector in the field of satellite information systems, especially in the area of the processing of remotely sensed earth observation data
