The invention discloses a light source module and a liquid crystal display applying the same. The light source module comprises a light guide plate, a frame body, a circuit board and a plurality of point light sources, wherein the light guide plate comprises a light-emitting surface and a light-entering surface; the light guide plate is arranged in the frame body; the part of the frame body facing to the light-entering surface of the light guide plate is provided with a plurality of lamp cup structures, the X direction diverging angle of each lamp cup structure is between 90-150 DEG; the circuit board is arranged outside the frame body, and the bottom of each lamp cup structure is provided with a light source setting region exposing the circuit board; and the point light sources are arranged on the light source setting regions and positioned in the lamp cup structures. The light source module can have better light-emitting efficiency, and the liquid crystal display adopting the light source module as a backlight source has better display effect.
