OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE TO LEAD AND BLOOD CHOLESTEROL IN GLUCOSE-6-PHOSPHATE DEHYDROGENASE DEFICIENT AND NORMAL SUBJECTS

The effect of chronic lead poisoning on blood cholesterol levels of 148 patients, admitted to the Institute of Occupational Medicine of the University of Cagliari (Italy), was studied in connection with the genetic pattern of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) activity. The erythrocyte G6PD activity of twenty-six patients was genetically deficient
