A Novel Waveform for Joint Radar and Communication Systems

2019
In this paper, a novel waveform is proposed for joint radar and communication systems. In the proposed waveform, communication signals are multiplexed at the side band of a linear frequency modulation (LFM) pulse, based on orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM). Therefore, the proposed waveform can maintain Doppler-tolerance as well as the LFM pulse and is capable of increasing the communication data rate by assigning the communication signals at the side-band sub-carriers. Numerical simulations was carried out to evaluate the probability of detection as a radar, and it has been validated that the proposed waveform is suitable for detecting fast moving targets.
