1987
Spontaneous subcutaneous and mediastinal em- physema is a rare but potentially dangerous complication of delivery. The condition was observed in a 24-year-old, small and slightly-built primipara after vaginal delivery of a large infant. ed subcutaneous and mediastinal emphysema. l'keatment was given with nasal oxygen and the patient was observed for fur- ther complications, but she remained afebrile, with stable pulse rate and blood pressure. After a week, X-ray of the thorax showed normal conditions and the patient was well.
