A study on evaluation and formulation of Amalakyadi tablets

2011
The objective of the present study was to develop tablet formulation of Amalakyadi powder containing Amla, Citraka, Haritaki, Pippali and Rock salt as the herbal ingredients. Ayurvedic formulary of India specifies the dose of Amalakyadi powder to be 5-10 gm per day. Dispensing and consumption of powder is inconvenient to the patients. Hence, in the present investigation, an attempt was made to prepare tablet formulations of Amalakyadi powder which improves patient compliance and acceptability. Tablet formulations were developed by wet granulation technique using maize starch and PVP K 30 as binders in different concentrations. The pre compression parameters evaluated for granules were angle of repose, percentage compressibility, Hausner’s ratio, bulk and tapped densities. The post compression parameters evaluated for the tablets were weight uniformity, hardness, friability and disintegration time.
