A fully automated fast analysis system for capillary gas chromatography. Part 2. Automatic sample introduction

For narrow bore columns with an internal diameter less than 100 J'm the potential speed of analysis and the high plate numbers per unit of length are the most striking features. Therefore these columns should be preferred for the analysis of complex mixtures with a wide range of volatilities, polarities and concentrations. Most serious obstruction for the applicability of narrow bore columns however is the It lack of compatible instrumentation. This study is dealing with the evaluation of the performance of a sample introduction system based on the use of standard splitlsplitless injection in combination with a cold trap reinjection device. It is shown that the system is suitable for a wide range of applications and can also be used for selective (ECD) detection.
