Mono- and mixed respiratory tract infections in children: Relevance of the problem during the COVID-19 pandemics

2021
Acute respiratory infections are one of the most common infections in children worldwide. The implementation of novel highly accurate diagnostic methods demonstrated that a significant proportion of respiratory tract infections are caused by more than one pathogen (virus plus virus or virus plus bacterium). Most frequently, mixed infections are observed in young children, which, in addition to non-specificity of most clinical manifestations, necessitates pathogen identification in order to prevent inadequate use of antibiotics. © 2021, Dynasty Publishing House.
