SEM ANALYSIS AND MECHANICAL PROPERTIES PREDICTION OF SERIAL DRILLED HOLES IN FIBROUS COMPOSITE STRUCTURE USING ANSYS

2015
Because of their favorable properties (e.g. High specific tensile strength and compressive strength, controllable electrical conductivity, low coefficient of thermal expansion, good fatigue resistance and suitability for the production of complex shape materials), FIBRE- reinforced composites are very widely used. According to paper, they have become the alternatives of conventional structural materials such as steel, wood or metals in many applications. Typical areas of composite applications are car industry, aircraft fabrication, wind power plant, boats, ships, etc. During the human history, composites made occasionally large breakthrough in construction and other materials. In this work, one of the glass fiber reinforced composites E- glass/Polyester composites is fabricated and then the plate is drilled with 10mm drill bit as per the design parameters. This study presents the effect of FIBRE/ Polyester composites on tensile, impact properties are evaluated. The mechanical properties are evaluated in this work using Universal Testing Machine. The various ASTM are followed while preparing and testing specimens. The woven composites are also fabricated for the optimum conditions to get maximum value of mechanical properties. To analyze the nature of fracture and FIBRE resin compatibility for composites scanning electron micrographs are used. From these findings the suitable application of E glass/Polyester composites are listed.
