Mass transfer augmentation due to the presence of rotating two stage two blade flat turbine promoters in an electrolytic cell

2018
Abstract An experimental investigation has been carried out to understand the augmentation of mass transfer coefficient in an open electrolytic cell by rotating two stage two blade flat turbine promoters. The limiting current data were measured by using diffusion controlled reduction reaction (Reduction of ferricynide ion) at the micro electrodes fixed on the electrode support. The mass transfer coefficients were obtained from the measured limiting current data and the concentrations of reducing ion. The effects of the electrolyte velocity, rotational speed of the turbine, and the diameter of the turbine, width of the turbine blade on the mass transfer coefficient were studied. Correlations were developed for mass transfer in terms of dimensionless factors, Sherwood number, Schmidt number, flow Reynolds number and rotational Reynolds number
