Various Approaches to the Surgical Management of Septa during the Maxillary Sinus Floor Elevation: A Case Report and a Literature Review

2013
Sinus floor elevation combined with guided bone regeneration (GBR) is a common surgical technique that is usually performed before or at the same time as dental implant placement into the maxilla. Three-dimensional dental computed tomography (3D dental CT) is a useful tool for imaging the anatomy of the maxillary sinus. This report documented three cases of sinus elevation of the maxillary sinus with a variety of septal distributions that were detected and measured with the aid of panoramic radiography and 3D dental CT. The diagnostic accuracy when examining the sinus septa using different radiographic imaging tools and how the surgical approaches used varied according to the unique location and morphology of sinus septa are presented and discussed.
