Optimal resonant capacitances for contactless power transfer systems

Contactless power transfer coils have a significantly large leakage inductance. Therefore, contactless power transfer systems require compensators to improve power factor. Although there are several types of the compensators, the LC series or parallel resonant compensators are commonly used for the simple structure. Generally, the resonant capacitors in the compensator have a capacitance obtained under ideal condition. This paper presents optimal resonant capacitances to obtain the maximum output power and maximum efficiency, considering influence of the losses and studies characteristics under the various conditions.
