UV–visible silicon detectors with zinc oxide nanoparticles acting as wavelength shifters

Abstract In the frame of this article different approaches for enhancement of UV response of silicon photodetectors are being reviewed and analysed. The approach of nanoparticles possessing wavelength-shifting properties is specifically explored. A model for numerical simulations is elaborated and basing on initial calculations the anticipated responsivity change of a detector can be predicted. A practical realization of the proposed concept is performed using the zinc oxide nanoparticles.
