Redemption of acid fuchsin dye from wastewater using de-oiled biomass: Kinetics and isotherm analysis

Abstract In this research, de-oiled biomass (Sargassum myriocystum) was utilized as biosorbent for the redemption of dye from wastewater. Response surface methodology was adopted to optimize the biosorption influencing parameters. The de-oiled biomass of 3 g had the potential to remove the maximum amount of the dye from wastewater for a contact time of 50 min and at 35 °C in the predicted optimized conditions. The linear regression analysis was done for equilibrium data and the Langmuir model showed good fit. Langmuir monolayer capacity of biosorbent for acid Fuchsin dye was 9.9 mg/g. The dye removal kinetic data informs that the dye removal followed the pseudo-second order rate kinetics. This inferred that the removal rate is controlled by chemisorption principle. The spent biosorbent can be recycled thrice without appreciable loss in its adsorption capacity. The newly prepared biosorbent showed excellent adsorption ability for dye wastewater.
