Foreign Trade Law in China and its Revision

The first Foreign Trade Law in China was enacted in 1994. Since then, the situation both at home and abroad has greatly changed. The changing trade landscape, together with China's accession and commitments to WTO have made the enactment of a new foreign trade law imperative. While many provisions in the 1994 Law have been revised, some useful provisions such as anti-dumping have been retained. This article comments on the revisions to the 1994 Law. The new Law was adopted on 6 April 2004 and became operational from 1 July 2004.
