The invention provides a gear and rack type lifting mechanism for an air purifier. The lifting mechanism comprises an upper air outlet, an inner air duct, a rack, a motor and a gear. The inner air duct is arranged below the upper air outlet. A groove is formed in the upper surface of the inner air duct. The lower end of the upper air outlet is embedded in the groove. The rack is arranged on the groove. A motor is arranged at the bottom end of the inner side of the upper air outlet. The motor is provided with the gear. The gear is meshed with the rack. According to the gear and rack type lifting mechanism for the air purifier, due to meshing of the gear and the rack and the fact that the motor drives the gear to rotate, the upper air outlet can move up and down; the speed is constant in the movement process and controllable; and the lifting mechanism is safe and practical and effectively blocks dust and impurities from entering, and contamination in the air purifier is prevented.
