Sea surface waves parameters retrieval method based on the measurement of the Doppler spectrum at small incident angle

2017
The paper deals with the solution of the inverse problem of remote sensing of the sea surface. The solution is obtained for the problem statement with the monostatic quasispecular acoustic sensing from under water. Sensing is supposed to carry out with the help of a fixed Doppler sonar with the antenna unit consists of two transceiver antennas with asymmetrical beam patterns oriented perpendicular to each other. The method of the inverse problem solution is based on the analysis of spectral and energy characteristics of the waves reflected from the sea surface. The paper gives the accuracy estimation of the proposed method of sea surface parameters retrieval for different wind speeds and angles of incidence. Also, the paper gives the expressions for the scattering cross-section, the width and offset of Doppler spectrum of the waves reflected from the sea surface in monostatic quasispecular problem statement taking into account the asymmetrical beam patterns of transceiver antennas.
