Plumatella viganoi, a new freshwater bryozoan species (Phylactolaemata) from Lake Trasimeno (Umbria, Italy)

2010
Abstract A new species of phylactolaemate (Bryozoa, Ectoprocta) is described from Italy. The new species has tubules with a circular section and the hyaline ectocyst is encrusted with fine mineral material. The keel and the emargination are hardly visible; the septa are absent. The floatoblast is elliptical with pointed poles. The measurements and the surface morphology of the statoblast distinguish this species from Plumatella repens (Linne), P. buschnelli Wood and P. casmiana (Oka). The new species was found only along the eastern side of the Lake Trasimeno (Perugia, Umbria, Italy).
