Biodegradation ofLignocellulose inBermudaGrassbyWhiteRot FungiAnalyzed bySolid-State 13CNuclear Magnetic Resonance

andmagicangle spinning 13C nuclear magnetic resonancedifference spectra andinterrupted decoupling spectra. Intensity differences inthe 13C resonancesassigned tospecific components ofthecell wall were usedtoobserve these changes. Bermuda grasstreated withPhanerochaete chrysosporium K-3exhibited losses primarily inthepolysaccharide components, witha smaller proportion ofphenolic componentsalsobeingdegraded. Incontrast, Ceriporiopsis subvermispora FP90031-sp removed a proportionate amountofphenolic components compared withpolysaccharide components. Theresults alsoindicated thatC.subvermispora preferentially removes guaiacyl phenolic componentsrelative tosyringyl phenolic components, while P.chrysosporium was nonspecific inits attack on phenolic components.
