The influence of verapamil upon proliferative smooth muscle cell of vein graft model

Objective To study influence of verapamil upon vein graft model.Methods 24 adult rabbits used in this study were divided into 2 groups( n= 12).Of all rabbits the autogenous jugular vein was grafted into the carotid artery by microsurgery.After the operation each group were fed as usual,but the experiment group received injection of verapamil 0.5 mg/kg from auricular vein bis in die.At 7 d,14 d and 21 d after grafting,from four of each groups the grafted vessel was taken out. Results Intimal hyperplasia (IH) of vein graft in experiment group increaed faster than that in control group.And the anti-proliferating cell nuclear antibody ( PCNA ) index of smooth muscle cell (SMC) in IH of experiment group is also lower than that of control group.Conclusion Verapamil has negative influence upon hyperplasia of smooth muscle cell of vein graft.
