“Sembramos por necedad”. La Central Hidroeléctrica Zimapán y el sector agrícola en las localidades de Bellavista del Río y La Mora del Municipio de Cadereyta de Montes, Querétaro, México, 1960-2010

2014
This essay is a case study of the hydroelectric plant of Zimapan (CHZ for its acronym in Spanish) and its impact on the agricultural sector of ejidatarios, or small-scale farmers, in the Bellavista del Rio and La Mora municipalities of Cadereyta de Montes, Queretaro in the period 1960-2010. The investigation follows an interdisciplinary approach in the use of qualitative methodologies, backed by the implementation of participatory workshops at both locations where the voices and experiences of people with respect to the agricultural sector and activities of socio-cultural and economic importance were highlighted. The attitude of the people corresponds to the collective expression of several interviewees, which is summarized in the phrase: “we farm out of stubbornness “, that is, through thick and thin, the ejidatarios continue their farming lifestyle as a form of resistance against the CHZ´s impact on the agricultural sector.
