Laparoscopic Repair of Morgagni Hernia in The Adults: Report of Two Cases

2017
Morgagni hernia is a retrosternally situated congenital diaphragmatic defect usually seen on the right, also affecting the left side. It is very rare in adulthood and elderly age period. Together with the developing techniques in laparoscopy, congenital diaphragmatic hernia can now be repaired by minimally invasive means. Two elderly female patients with subtle abdominal symptoms incidentally diagnosed with Morgagni hernia after abdominal CT scans are reported in this study. Both patients were operated by minimally invasive approach and laparoscopic repair with the reinforcement using synthetic material was performed in both cases. Patients were discharged after an uneventful postoperative period. In conclusion, laparoscopic repair can safely be performed in selected cases in centers experienced in advanced laparoscopy.
