Jerarquía urbana en América Latina

This essay studies the demographic, spatial and functional evolution of the main Latin American cities as first step to depict a hierarchy of cities in the global and continental arena. The research has started from the concep of "world cities" and uses amongst others indicators to detennine the urban hierarchy, the population volume, the economic role the State plays in the intemational contest, the gross domestic product per capita, the role of the city as state capital and its intemational air transport connectivity.
