Diffusion of Deuterium in Amorphous Cordierite

1984
Diffusion of deuterons from D2O vapor into cordierite was performed at elevated temperatures. The presence of deuterons is monitored with infrared absorption of OD− ions at 2630 cm−1. The diffusion coefficient D at 1273 K is about 2 × 10−11 m2/s. The activation energy E in the Arrhenius equation is 3 × 105 J/mol. Out-diffusion of D+ ions can be enhanced by application of an electric field.
