Heteropoly Acid-Catalyzed Reactions of Terpenes I. Direct Hydration of Camphene

The heteropoly acids 12-tungstophosphoric and 12-tungstosilicic acid are excellent catalysts in the homogeneous hydration of camphene to isoborneol. The effects of a number of reaction variables are reported.
