Using High Performance Computing for Parameter Sweep of S3D Applications

2019
Electric ship design and simulation software can be used to identify design defects early in the design and significantly reduce the cost compared to later discovery. Depending on the complexity of the design and desired details, the simulation may take minutes to hours to run. Running many variations of a simulation for tradespace exploration or set-based design can take hours to days. This paper describes efforts to bring high performance computing (HPC) capabilities to one early stage ship design tool, S3D, as part of the Electric Ship Research and Development Consortium (ESRDC). Past and present HPC examples are presented.
