THE NEXT DECADE OF MANAGEMENT EDUCATION: HOW DIFFERENT?

In each of the four areas there are items that appear to influence us more immediately or have more far-reaching impact. For example, the environmental items that may influence us more immediately are concerns for social responsibility and for the quality of life. Most of us are in schools today that include these topics in their curricula. But demands for a more relevant education and for courses that teach how to manage small businesses may not be easy for us to acknowledge and deal with effectively. After all, are we not frequently criticized for being too esoteric, too "theory-oriented," and for teaching skills that apply primarily to giant corporations? Perhaps we may not be willing to respond to these demands. In the area of students it seems reasonable to conclude that the items which may have the greatest impact on us may be student demands for relevant education that extends throughout their business careers.
