PVF2 transducers and imaging arrays

1981
A summary of the known piezoelectric mechanisms of PVF2 is presented. Properties of interest in regard to acoustic devices are explored. Calculations and experiments are used to examine the potential uses of PVF2 in acoustic devices. An integrated, multielement PVF2 imaging array is described. The array was constructed using photolithography, which allowed accurate, simple construction. Bulk wave imaging was performed at 2.25 MHz using this array. The line response and resolution of the array are compared to theory. A similar array was used for focused surface wave line scanning at 5 MHz on a silicon nitride substrate. The line response of the array was measured and compared to theory. Simple flaws were also detected.
