The first Industrial Revolution that kicked off in the 1760s ushered in an era represented by the steam engine in technology and by coal in energy; the second Industrial Revolution that started in the 1870s brought the era represented by electric lamp and iron and steel in technology and by petroleum in energy. During the third Technological Revolution in the 1940s and 1950s, all kinds of electric appliances and equipment were popularized and families began to have cars. As a result, the demand for petroleum increased dramatically.
