Related risk factors for mortality due to nosocomial infections

OBJECTIVE To understand the general data of the patients who died of nosocomial infections and to explore the influence of nosocomial infections on the mortality.METHODS The hospitalized patients who died of the nosocomial infections were investigated from Jan 2008 to Dec 2011,by means of Beijing regional hospital infection surveillance system,the statistical analysis was performed.RESULTS Totally 7855 cases died of infections during the period,among which 5192 cases were associated with the nosocomial infections,accounting for 66.10%.The multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that the gender,age,surgical operation,stay in ICU,urinary tract catheterization,and application of artificial respirator were the high risk factors for the mortality due to the nosocomial infections.CONCLUSION The more than 60 yeas of age,surgery,hospitalization in ICU,urinary tract catheterization,and application of artificial respirator are the primary risk factors for the patients′ death due to the nosocomial infections.
