Jewel—A new potato variety with high solids and excellent chipping qualities

1969
Jewel is a new potato variety with a good yield of No. 1 tubers and high specific gravity. It chips extremely well to produce light color chips with high chip yields per hundredweight. It has a heavy tuber set per hill but a tendency to produce small tubers. Tests in New York and Wisconsin indicate this variety consistently produces high specific gravity and should not be considered as an all-purpose potato. The variety has the ability to recondition in a short time following 40 F storage. It has no known disease resistance.
