An Algorithm and Properties Enabling Identification of Bifurcation Subsystems

2005
Abstract A systematic algorithm that applies the bifurcation subsystem and geometric decoupling test conditions is given for identification of a bifurcation subsystem using the bifurcating right eigenvector information. Both bifurcation subsystem condition and geometric decoupling condition are applied to a sequence of partitioned full system models with resultant internal systems of increasing order. In order to simplify and provide more insight into the bifurcation subsystem identification procedure, a set of extensions of geometric decoupling condition are presented. More discussion on the identification algorithm reveals that obtaining the bifurcation subsystem, which experiences, produces, and causes the bifurcation in full system model, is an event of very high probability for power systems. This analysis reveals that the existence of a bifurcation subsystem requires much weaker conditions than that required for slaving, coherency reduction, and α–decomposition method. More important, the simplicity...
