MOMOCS MDE for the Modernization of Complex Systems

2008
Legacy systems are valuable assets and retaining their value is the common objective of modernisation efforts. The problem has been known for years, but as time passes, and the amount of legacy code increases, it now demands for holistic, automated, and viable solutions. Similarly to the OMG ADM (Architecture-Driven Modernisation) initiative, MOMOCS proposes a model-based solution to help abstract away unnecessary details and concentrate on the characteristics of interest of the systems we want to modernise. The paper proposes a summary of the MOMOCS solution for understanding and evolving existing software assets. The proposal considers that a unified and coherent view of the system is the essential element to support XIRUP (eXtreme end-User dRiven Process), and it is also the "glue" for other domain-specific activities.
