Speed Control of a Marine Engine using Predictive Functional Control based PID Controller

2018
To improve the speed tracking performance of marine main engine under wide speed range and load factor, meanwhile, to reduce the tiring burden of tuning conventional PID, a controller is designed by combining the predictive functional control (PFC) with PID algorithm, which keeps the merits in both. First-order plus dead time (FOPDT) model is chosen as the reference model for the proposed controller, which is identified with the input/output data via simple PID method in different speed step responses. A modified mean value engine model (MVEM) of the target engine is structured to evaluate the proposed controller. The speed tracking performance of the PFC-PID and classical PID controller are compared. The simulation results demonstrate that the PFC-PID controller has better transient and steady performance.
