Thermographic investigation of UO2, UCl, and KCl ternary and binary systems

The systems UCl4-KC1, UO2-KCl, UO2-UCl, and UO2-UCl4-KCl were investigated thermographically. The presence of compounds K2UCl6 and UOCl2 in the binary systems UCI4-KCl and UO2-UCl4 allows a breakdown of the ternary system UO2-UCl4-KCl into the subsystems UOCl2-K2UCl6-UCl4, UO2-UOCl2-K2UCl6, and UO2-K2UCl6-KCl. The first of these has the lowest melting point and is regarded as an independent ternary system.
