The clinical efficacy of simvastatin at different doses for elderly patients with hyperlipaemia

2012
Objective To observe the efficacy of simvastatin at two different doses for elderly patients with hyperlimaemia. Methods 90 elderly patients who had been hospitalized during 2010 to 2012 were randomly divided into study group and control group. The study group received simvastatin of 20mg/d while the control group was treated with simvastatin of 10mg/d.Results After treatment, total cholesterol (TC) was (4.13 ± 0.78) mmol/L in the study group and (5.41 ± 0.86) mmol/L in the control group, triglyceride (TG) was (1.08 ± 0.29)mmol/L in the study group and (1.66 ± 0.32)mmol/L in the control group, and high-density lipoprotein was (1.46 ± 0.26)mmol/L in the study group and (1.21 ± 0.24)mmol/L in the control group. The study group was superior to the control group in improvement in blood lipids (P< 0.05).The total effectiveness rate was markedly higher in the study group than in the control group (97.8% vs.88.9%,P < 0.05).Conclusions Simvastatin at moderate dose is more effective in the improvement of blood lipid levels and has no obvious increase in adverse reactions. It is safe and effective for elderly patients with hyperlipaemia.
