Current status of nuclear medicine imaging and research of imaging agents in the field of Parkinson disease

Parkinson disease(PD) is one of the most common neurodegenerative illnesses among elderly population.It is difficult to make definite diagnosis or assess the condition of patient in clinical work nowadays because of lacking standard criteria.Conventional imaging technology like CT or MRI can be used to diagnose PD sometimes,but the low sensitivity and specificity,especially in some atypical or preclinical cases limit their application.Nuclear medicine imaging improves the indicators mentioned above significantly,may be used more and more widely in the domain of clinical practice and research of PD.The application of nuclear medicine imaging and study of imaging agents in PD were reviewed in this article.
