Zigbee Networks in Teaching Environments

2019
In this paper, we propose a new field of application for wireless communication networks based on Zigbee Technology: educational environments. In the classroom, administrative activities are carried out as part of teaching. Hence, we suggest the implementation of a tool that will optimize the execution of these activities, as well as the time dedicated to them. In the proposed system, a coordinating node and several end nodes make use of Arduino boards and radiofrequency communication devices (XBee modules) to communicate during experiments or activities within a class. The design of the communication scheme allows the coordinating node to acquire and manage digital signals to interact with end users, even if they are physically dispersed in one or more classrooms. The coordinating node is associated with a graphical user interface desktop application from which the experiments carried out by the students can be directed with the aid of the final nodes and a test plate. The proposed design has up to eight nodes in its initial stage. Additionally, the proposal is implemented in a basic Digital electronics class.
