Indications and Results of Open Preperitoneal Mesh Repair for Recurrent Groin Hernia

1999
Despite recent technical and technologic advances in the surgical repair of groin hernias, there continues to be a problem with recurrence. Many of the newer techniques have not been tested over a sufficient number of years to assess a true rate of recurrence. The issue of recurrence as a measure of outcome for repair of any hernia is considered appropriate, as it reflects the quality of the initial repair as well as its durability. Just how well these newer approaches will perform has yet to be established.
