Analysis of the cognitive level of dietotherapy among the urban and rural diabetic patients and its influencing factors

Objective: To learn the cognitive level of the related knowledge of dietotherapy among the unrban and rural diabetes mellitus(DM) patients,and provide guidance to health education for the rural DM patients.Methods: A questionnaire survey was conducted among the 226 rural and 137 urban DM patients of inpatient treatment on the related knowledge of diet,the reasonable diet control and the related factors affecting diet,then the results were statistically analyzed.Results: Most rural patients did not have any diet-related knowledge and not reasonably control their diet,and their cognitive degree of dietotherapy and the ability of rational diet control was significantly lower than those of the urban patients(P0.05 or P0.01).Conclusion: The cognitive level of dietotherapy,the reasonable diet control and the dietotherapy effect are very poor for rural DM patients,the popularization of DM knowledge is urgently needed in rural areas to improve the cognition degree of DM diet.
