Magnetic Properties of Ce5Si3 Single Crystal under Pressure

We have performed magnetization measurements under pressure up to about 10 kbar for single crystals of Ce 5 Si 3 . At ambient pressure, the magnetic susceptibility along the c -axis χ c shows a cusp at T 1 ∼11.6 K, whereas the susceptibility along the a axis χ a shows a broad peak at T 2 ∼3.9 K. The magnetization curve at 1.8 K shows a metamagnetic transition at a field of about 4 T for both axes. We have found that the pressure effect of magnetic properties for the a axis is sensitive compared to that for the c -axis, which imply that the origin of the metamagnetism for the a and the c axis are different each other.
