Changes and relationship of cholinesterase and procalcitonin in patients with severe pneumonia

2016
Objective To observe the changes and relationship of cholinesterase(CHE)and procalcitonin (PCT)in patients with severe pneumonia. Methods The serum concentrations of CHE and PCT were measured in 40 patients with severe pneumonia(severe pneumonia group), 45 patients with common pneumonia(common pneumonia group) and 40 healthy people(control group). Results The serum CHE concentration was (4.23±1.85) KU/L and PCT concentrations was (20.38±5.57) μg/L in severe pneumonia group, which were (9.12±2.15) KU/L, (3.27±0.65) μg/L in common pneumonia group and (9.05±2.18) KU/L, (0.03±0.01) μg/L in control group, there were significant differences among the severe pneumonia group and other groups(P 0.05). There was significant difference in the concentration of PCT between the common pneumonia group and the control group (P<0.05) . Linear correlation showed that the levels of CHE was negatively correlated with PCT in the severe pneumonia group (r=-0.752, P<0.05). Conclusions The levels of CHE and PCT increased with the increase of the infection degree of pneumonia, and the levels of CHE are negatively correlated with PCT in patients with severe pneumonia, quantitative determination of CHE and PCT in patients with severe pneumonia is helpful to judge the severity of the disease and evaluate the treatment effect. Key words: Severe pneumonia; Cholinesterase; Procalcitonin
