Recovery of Implicit Control Flow in Software Pipelined Loops

2008
If-conversion with predicated execution has been proposed to convert explicit conditional branches in loops into implicit control flow, which can enlarge the chance of instruction schedule. However it can profoundly restructure the low level code of programs and complicate the task of understanding and re-engineering from an optimized executable. This paper describes a technique to recover implicit control flow in software pipelined loops and thereby improve the quality and efficiency of IA-64 binary translation. This technique has been implemented in our static binary translator and is proved to be valid with the experiments.
