Novel Technique of Mimo Antenna Design for UWB Applications Using Defective Ground Structures

2018
A novel MIMO antenna design using defected ground structure is proposed in this work to notch Wi-Fi and WLAN bands in the Ultra Wideband (UWB) communication applications. The proposed antenna with two square shaped patch elements on top of the substrate and defected ground structure (DGS) on the other side to substrate. FR4 substrate with permittivity 4.4 is used in this design with microstrip line feeding as feeding mechanism. Split ring slots are placed on the patch surface to attain notch characteristics in the proposed model. Simulation is carried through HFSS tool and Measurement is taken on ZNB 20 vector network analyzer for reflection coefficient, VSWR, port isolation, radiation patterns and presented in this work. Result shows that the antenna can be operated between 2.5 to 10.6 GHz with band notching at 3.1-3.8 GHz (Wi-Fi) and 5.2 to 5.8 GHz (WLAN).
