Surface Brightness Fluctuations: a powerful tool for investigating unresolved stellar populations

On the basis of new models for Surface Brightness Fluctuations (SBFs) we show the e ectiveness of these quantities in constraining the properties of bright stars and in deconvolving information on the evolutionary state of galaxies, in terms of age and chemical content.
