This research is aimed to study the achievements of controlling a sandwich cantilever beam embedded with electro-rheological fluid as a tunable vibration absorber. In this study, the sandwich beam is filled with electro-rheological fluid as a structure of the vibration absorber. The electric field makes the suspended particles be polarized and connected with each other to form chain. The viscosity and the yield stress of the ER fluid is increasing as the electric field is applied, so it can be applicable as a tunable vibration absorber. This study describes the dynamic properties of the sandwich cantilever beam of which natural frequencies of the beam increase with the electric field. Therefore it is suitable to be the dynamic vibration absorber (DVA). According to the experimental results, an interval type-2 fuzzy controller is proposed to accomplish the semi-active vibration control using the DVA. The experimental results are compared for the self-tuning control method and the traditional method.
